Summarised from an update by Esther Elliott (Lay Ministries Working Group Project Consultant) in this Friday’s email from the CofE’s Ministry Division.
The Ministry Council have now (November 2016) considered the report & have communicated the main points with Archbishops Council & the House of Bishops.
The Council asked for more work to be done on the recommendations before the report would be approved for consideration by the Archbishops’ Council & House of Bishops. The Ministry Council will discuss the report again at its February 2017 meeting with a focus on the recommendations.
To realise growth in the quality & quantity of lay ministry the Cof E needs to:
1) reflect on the theology & practice of lay ministry & thru practice embed the idea that all ministry is best understood & practiced as a collegiate & corporate endeavour;
2) shift it’s discourse about lay ministry from role / identity / licensing / authorisation / categorisation to improving the quantity & value of lay ministers service in response to particular missional needs;
